kings's playlist...

As above, so below.
'I just called to say hello'
Add to the array
Thus to say
But this you know
Well, I hope so

I've been trying to learn my way around cubase and release some inner desire at the same time, and ended up here in doing so.
I've put all of my stuff on my web site including some of my poetry/lyrics.

This was recorded in a spontaneous fashion down by a Lake In British Columbia, Canada. The vocal and guitar is spontaneous and the rest was recorded later, some in my van, some outside and inside the house. It is my only acoustic rock song thus far....jgv

One Serious Song

Created some time ago for the Stormrider project. I've tried to put in some '70 police-series feel into it, since the subject of the lyrics could have been derived from a '70-s police series episode plot. The vocals were deliberately mixed to background with a lot of reverb added to them because this is designed to be played REAL LOUD! (so you can actually hear what's being said, and be blasted away by the instrumental bits in the process!)

Life is a Logic

Thought I'd upload this...

It's a really old ('98?), really minimalist sample based industrial-punk groove piece, with all home brewn samples I had made just for the occasion. I made this with a friend at a friends house, who now, 10 years later, has become lead singer in our band. We are now in a 4-piece typical rock band formation working on a version of this song aswell, that's why I'm posting it.

So - do not expect ultra hi fi super smooth samples here, they were made via the soundcard input at the time, and at 8 bit mono settings only. There is no panning involved - it's all about the groove of this funny little song. I just hope you can enjoy!

Created in Impulse tracker. Guitar sound created with roland vg-8 sampled into cpu. Drums samples via Alesis SR16. Voice sampled via crappy mic on cpu mic input (even worse). "Life is a logic" is my voice, "beep beep beep" is Art's.

That's instrumental guitar stuff. Starts with some acoustic guitar, then some heavy distortion guitars follow...
Musical picture that I had some time ago...

I am re-posting this, since it went through internal sample rate conversion of bandamp.com player and sounds slower and lower, at least to say :)

Hi, Its been quite a long time since i've been on here. I hope everyone is doing good.
I've been toying around with this for the past week, and i'm still not very happy with it, but I think thats mainly b'cos it sounds too similar to all the rest of my stuff... I'm in a bit of a musical rut...

feedback and criticisms are always welcome

The strangest chords I ever came up with, not intentionally, though. The song idea is about 4-5 yrs old but it was redone a couple of months ago into this version. One slight problem you might notice is the drums - I think I might have used the same pattern for this song and GRUGE. It's just that my wave library is very limited.
Please tell me what you think about this song.

This is by no means autobiographical so don't get the wrong idea.
I've somehow managed to mix this a lot louder than I usually manage without peaks. My stuff usually comes out pretty quiet... But, is it mixed too loud? I have no decent monitor and only really my headphones to rely on so let me know if you experience peaking distortion or or any other mixing nasties.
Cheers.

Well, this is a cover! (The original is by Matchbox 20)

It started out as a backing track that I was doing for myself... then progressed onto a backing track for my band (which is now a 3 piece), and then finally I thought I may as well complete it by adding my vocals and guitar!

At the moment, I'm spending so much of my time working on the band material that I rarely have time to complete any of my own stuff... hence posting this - thought you could have a sample of what I've been up to.

Comments would be great.
Vote if you feel it deserves it.

ANYDAY

This is a song I made some time ago. Did not know really what do with it and I sent my track to JBP. So he completed the tune with a melody, lyrics, guitars and vocals.

So it has become another wonderful song (I think) in this colaboration between JBP and me.

The first title was "the trash song". But anyhow this is what we are coming up with. And if you like it.....

....... please please rate it

Came home yesterday for the first time in a while. I've had this song in my head for quite some time, so I recorded it as soon as I got home.

Uploaded last night. Listened to it this morning. Wasn't happy.

Uploaded again today. I'm happier.

your comments are always greatly appreciated and your criticism doubly so

Happy Valentine

This song isn't about anybody in particular... just because of the name "Valentine" doesn't mean it's about someone with that name... I mean... that's just coincidental okay?!

....

anyways, I plan to re record this song... I'd like some ideas from my fellow bandampers... please... go ahead, add ideas, please tell me if this song works for you, and how you'd like to hear it :) I'd love to incorporate all comments for a new version :)

ah hear the phone rings
time for a night out
fragile hearts await to break like glass on
classy smiles and
aerosol touch of plastic warmth
enthusiastic spasms of a lovelife on the thresh
of lifting off...

she paints her face down with red and sticky glue
wrapped around her eyes it looks like
wings of butterflies
look at all the flesh displayed
all this ecstasy unveiled
"run away with me," her body screams,
"you will be pleased to please, please me"

she's a happy valentine
such a happy valentine

kisses, hugs and funny talk
electrifies the air
look at her attention span,
"what with who and why and where?"
a gazillion pretty friends to give her
all the love she needs
in the centre of the universe she says:
"it's just ol' silly little
ME"

it's a happy valentine
such a happy valentine

enjoy ;)

please comment... I want to re-do this song, I'd appreciate any suggestions how-to an whatnot, I'd love to make it sound completely different!

Hang Man (Avinashv_Flyer7747)

A collaboration between
Avinashv
Flyer 7747

"Hang Man"

I was heading into town
the sun was reflecting
my shadow
on the ground
a loaf of bread
won't feed my family
hang man hang man
tie it tight
around me

his pockets were empty
he went down
I emptied 3 plus 3
all six rounds

before the final
the final snapping
sound
Dont let my feet hit the ground
hang man hang man
theres no forgivness for me

I took away the only one she had
Let her be the one who drops me down
hang man hang man
I have no plea
Tie it tight
so people in this town can sleep
tonight

so people in this town can sleep
tonight

it was a cold cold day
when the hangman covered my face
Blackness
is my pay
theres no forgivness
for me
no forgivness for me

I have no plea
hang man hang man
tie it tight
let the people sleep tonight

I never heard that final snapping sound
well, my feet never made it to the ground
Mr Preacher
you forgot to say a prayer for me

Let her be the one who drops me down
I took away the only one she ever had
hang man hang man
theres no forgivness
for me
tie it tight
let the people sleep tonight

hang man,,,,hang man

My nieghbour Pete died suddenly a few days ago, whom I've known for over 26 years.
His wife found him at home in bed, then suffered a mild heart attack. She is OK now.

This piece goes out to Pete's family.

Sorry for the background noise, fireworks night etc.

I dont think I could do this again, it simply wouldn't capture the emotion.

Bless.

Diamond Eyes

I wrote this quite recently. My friend Adam Throp helped me record it. He's mega at this kinda thing...

Lyrics

The city sold me lies to help me sleep at night
My soul was freed because I tripped into the light
And now I laugh when they tell me that I'm free
This isn't how I wanted my next life to be

I want a way to turn back the clocks
I wanna see the skies
I see my train but I don't know where it stops
Now I see your diamond eyes

I hope we find a way to get back what we need
So all my brothers and my sisters will be free
Sometimes I feel like the world is full of fools
I can't cheat at the game cos I don't know the rules

I want a way to turn back the clocks
I wanna see the skies
I see my train but I don't know where it stops
Now I see your diamond eyes

I followed your advice and created another mix of the stupidest song ever!
I hope you will hear it on the radio one of these days!

Sit back... relax...and enjoy

And please share your opinion and vote. I am not sure if i am ever going to do such a thing again.

You want rock? I'll give you ROCK!

This is a half-day project.
The guitar playing a bit rough, but I didn't want to make many takes. The lead guitar isn't well enough.

Hope you enjoy.

PS: I'm loving fake notes.

Drawing January

Drawing January by James Iarocci

Perfomed by Jovian Flame:
James Iarocci - vocals, bass
John Neiss - guitar, drums
Zach Marzec - keyboard

Recorded and produced by Bradley Burr

Separated in the light somehow,
I navigated the darkness, now I'm lost in the day
I liked it when I was blinder then,
Always taking a left turn when I can't find my way
Waiting for the anything to come
Tired of emptiness and boredom from the nothing in sight
I said 'your kind is bad luck to me'
Staring down this Christmas tree on New Years' Day night

Say it in the way that you best know how
A thousand words of value this page endow
My sense of my direction it fails me
Time and again and again and it's time to go back
To the place where the dream appeared and vanished
So rapidly I wonder if it truly was
Or if the flash of disappointment before my eyes
Were just that
But I'd take it back

Sat for hours in a rocking chair
Just looking, smiling, and talking where the minute hands fly
Acceleration of the time like this
A likely cause to how I'd ever miss you tiptoeing by

It was lost on me
I'm as clueless as you
Assuming that you are clueless too

Draw me the sky, draw me a cloud
Draw me a tree, draw me a sparrow
Draw me a how, draw me a why
Draw me a map, draw me an arrow
If you would please, direct me
To the place with the black caterpillar
Which was stained just as well
On my mind as on my pillow

Standing up with a relenting sigh
I undecided so quickly I can't tell quite how far
I only hear about you secondhand
I'm January the second and know not where you are

If you would please, direct me
To the place with the black caterpillar
Which was stained just as well
On my mind as the back of my hand
All the places we went when we
Truly never went anywhere
All the things that we did when we
Truly never did anything
All the memories we made when I
Truly can't remember a thing
All the words that we said
That we won't be saying forever

Million Dollars

Here we are again. Here is the fourth song off the original HASTINGS recordings in Buffalo, NY. Again, I played drums, and worked out the arrangement on this track. This is a typical example of what living in a dreary place like Buffalo (1998-2002) can do to a man. The lousy weather and stagnant working conditions really come though in the vibe of this song.

Enjoy.

Argh, I've tried to upload this like 3 times n it keeps sayin I've already got a song with the same name :(
Hope it works this time.

She is up, She is down.
Why are you still here?
She is off, on a whim.
Why dya persevere?

Don't tell me,
You're in love.
Don't tell me,
You're in love.

Don't lose your head now honey,
I wont let ya.
Don't lose your head now honey,
I wont let ya.

God help ya, If you're in love.
(Well you're a fool in love. A fool in love)
God help ya, If you're in love.
(Well you're a fool in love. A fool in love)

Don't lose your head now honey,
I wont let ya.

When I played a bit around with piano sounds for a couple of hours I recorded this little thing relaxing on the right hand and trying to give it some soul. A B3 is in there. All instruments are synthetic sounds, nothing real. This is why I think its stolen. Don't talk about the lazy played piano. Just listen and relax at 100db.

My attempt at weird indian-inspired spaced-out grooves. I was experimenting with gate and distortion on a square wave and came up with a neat baseline, and the rest just kind of fell into place.

All computer generated stuff...tell me what you think :)

I got alot of 'this is not my style' feedback

Maybe 'your style' is wrong?

Don't try and focus on any one given part... especially the high synths... your head might explode...

Consider yourself warned

A Ball And Chain

"A Ball And Chain"
by Naked Toes & Olive

This is the very first track i recorded... it has been some time ago when i made a rough
drum track and recorded the guitar track... now, when i had the chance to ask a friend of mine
to make vocals for my song, i worked on it again... and together with her great voice
and vocal track (be honest - her voice is a hit ;) ) it's what it was planned to be: a trip-hop-track
with female voice and dry sound..
i always want to make tracks with a full song structure.. i rarely record just a riff or some experiments,
because i'd always be unhappy with something that doesn't lead you through a whole musical story or
the moods a want to express.. so this track here has a full structure, too - it would be cool
if you listen to the whole thing, theres a break and stuff you would miss and i would like
to have your review on that, too ;) thanks a lot!
i hope you enjoy it - there will be more of that kind!

This is my first attempt at some ambient stuff. I've collaborated with a chap who's name is 'David Newby'. I'm just playing the guitar with percussion played on my guitar, which was layed down first with the aid of a metronome. It's the first time I've collaborated with someone for a long time. Please give honest comments.

Thanx

una pizza e tre befane

this ballad in D was composed in italian, performed here by me (guitar and voice) and Mr Cauboi (guitar)

UNA PIZZA E TRE BEFANE
gennaio 2002

dietro a una grata dentro una gabbia / gabbia di cuori grata di fiori
Dadd9 Cmaj7
fuggi / corri /scappa / via da me
G F/ C B / G F / C B D	(note della melodia)
ride la gatta dietro a uno specchio / specchio di fiori gatta di cuori
Dadd9 Cmaj7
fuggi /corri / scappa /via con me
G F/ C B / G F / C B D	(note della melodia)
dolce spavento di primavera / angelo accanto ieri stasera
	G D / C G
una befana ho visto dietro a te / una befana ho visto dietro te
C Bb	Am G / Bb D G

scoppia la fretta dentro al cuore / gela il mio canto come sudore
spalanca / cerca / trova / e poi non c'è
urla la fretta scaccia lo spettro / giù dentro al cuore per il tuo rispetto
spalanca / cerca / trova / - ehi - qualcosa c'è
esile vola il mio respiro / agile canto di un sospiro
seconda befana ho visto accanto a te / seconda befana ho visto accanto a te

Berlin/Cologne/Paris

this one is a track of our/anlogue birds 5th CD. I was really in the mood to put something smooth on it! the melody is a traditional arabian for the oud, a short neck lute. the analogue birds performed as an quartett that time and an maroccan oud player was part of the ensemble. I asked him if he wanted to do the tune after I arranged a bassline and a drumpattern for it and put it into musical shape. first it was planned to do the theme just with an oboe. I already recorded the guide track with the oboe player, but for some reasons it never worked out. instead of that that, my neighbour and pubmate, coincidental a worldclass violin player, agreed on having a few hour recordingsession. he played the thing just from the sheet I printed out of "logic" for him:-)
the bassline I wrote never happened. instead of that a jazz organ player who provided the room for the drum recordings played some easy layers with his original b3/leslie on top of it!
my part as a didgeridooplayer and the role of the tube is more of secondary nature. I still love the piece for its history and sweetness. its so different from all the powerpieces we made!

If I .....

This was in my opinion the best effort that was put together by me and my crew of mates in our recording spree. Top notch performances all round from everyone, nicely laid out and well played. I love this tune because it was written by my and my old bassist John @nodge' Buckley waaaaaaay back in the days of our first bands and it somehow lingered on in different forms until we laid it to rest in this recording.

Its a song about regrets i guess. People always come back to me and say something new about it. People get different vibes from it and for that im really glad.

Thanks to Alan on Bass, Shane on vocals,Dekki on drums again and of course Mick my engineer. I say "MY" because he's been with me ever since we started making music, always there to tweek the sound till its squeaky clean. Believe it or not but he gave 4 hours of his life setting up the sound of the lead guitar at the end of the tune. (which accidentally got erased at a later point!OOOOPS) So this one is dedicated to all his hard work over the course of the recording project.

Hope you enjoy

Real Boys

Boys like you, are a penny a dozen
and none too smart.
Let me guess, you play guitar in a band
And 'appreciate art'
(Oh whaterver)
Let me guess, you love My Chem
And like to express by the way you dress,
with girls jeans and hair so you can't see...

Movers and shakers and Fallout boys
They like to cry and throw thier toys...

Where have the real boys gone?
(We want a real boy)
Where have the real boys gone?
(For real, For real, For real)
Where have the real boys gone?

Real Boys

Boys like you, are a penny a dozen
and none too smart.
Let me guess, you play guitar in a band
And 'appreciate art'
(Oh whaterver)
Let me guess, you love My Chem
And like to express by the way you dress,
with girls jeans and hair so you can't see...

Movers and shakers and Fallout boys
They like to cry and throw thier toys...

Where have the real boys gone?
(We want a real boy)
Where have the real boys gone?
(For real, For real, For real)
Where have the real boys gone?
Oh where have the real boys gone?

My boy he's for real.
My boy he's for real.

Control

well...here's another one of my latest recordings...still in it's early stages...vox are for guide only...nothing is eq'd except the drums (which are awesome btw!) Let me know what you think!

Lyrics:

Is there something that you believe in?
Does it handle your situation?
And we all have got to find some peace of mind.
And we all have got to find some peace of mind.

Chorus
Why wait for something
You can fall back on?
Why stay when there’s a perfectly good road
That you can travel down?
When deep inside you know

That you’re the one who’s in control
You’re the one in control
You’re the one in control

Verse 2
Can you answer every tough question?
Or do you spin out in all directions?
And we all have got to find our way around.
And we all have got to find our way around.

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3
What do you see looking back from your mirror?
Do you find a friend, a trusted counsellor?
And we all have got to find a voice that we can trust.
And we all have got to find a voice that we can trust.

Awake and Dreaming

So...Here is my acoustic injection of estrogen...I didn't mean this song to come out so girly, but it is an intimate song.:)
I hope I represent this site well, but I need a bit of advice bc I'm afraid I have no ear for mixing. I've compressed and eq'ed and I can't tell any diff.

For starters:
1 Does the main vocal keep an intimate feeling without sounding weak? Is there too much reverb?
I used a condenser mic so I could try to make the impression of having a private conversation.

2 Do the vox harmonies blend well, as if they are of 1 voice?

3. I strummed the guitar with my thumb bc I wanted that "feeling". Does the guitar sound okay? (Keep in mind, my playing ability is limited as I taught myself and have no idea what I'm doing. It boils down to me needing more practice.):)

So, this is my first recording and I appreciate any constructive criticism so that I can improve;) I am sorry for the long post but I have many questions. Thanks.
